Lyfe magnetic planters

Lyfe, gravitating, magnetic planter,

The makers of Flyte – the gravitating light bulbs – have launched a new exciting product: Lyfe! It’s a planter that hovers over a wooden base by magnetic levitation. “A zero-gravity growing system allowing you to cultivate your favorite plants in mid-air” as they describe it. Created by Simon Morris, the project successfully launched in Kickstarter in June and already reached its funding goal. Simply magic!

This is the work of Dean West, an Australian-born photographer and visual artist. Highly staged, surreal images that look like paintings, but are in fact reassembled from memory! West stages his photographs with actors and draws inspiration from artists like David Hockney and Edward Hopper, but also from Hollywood and American retro in general. Very cinematic!

This is a fine example of the new age of souvenir shops, We Built This City is London’s alternative souvenir shop on popular Carnaby Street. Founder Alice Mayor, though that London is not all red buses, taxis and telephone boxes and that the city could do better concerning the souvenir scene. She imagined a store that would offer a more exciting selection of souvenirs than just kitsch Big Ben fridge magnets or Union Jack mugs.

Her first pop up shop on Carnaby Street showcased work by over 100 artists, illustrators and designers, thus supporting the local creative community. After the overwhelming success of the initial launch, the shop was invited back on the same street, where it has remained permanently. The online shop will be launched soon, meanwhile if you happen to be in London, check it out for great art prints, homeware and accessories.

I wish I could personally experience this amazing installation in Lake Iseo, Italy by 81-year-old Bulgarian-American artist Christo, but unfortunately it was on until July 3rd. The artist created The Floating Piers, a long walkway made of vivid yellow fabric on top of floating cubes. Visitors were able to experience this work of art by walking on it from Sulzano to Monte Isola and to the island of San Paolo. “Those who experienced The Floating Piers felt like they were walking on water – or perhaps the back of a whale,” said Christo.

The transformation of a cargo van into a mobile studio

I love how this filmmaker has creatively transformed an old van into a mobile studio. After deciding to embark on a creative “road show” around the U.S.,  Zach Both bought a van, and started to renovate the interior, taking influences from contemporary architecture. With no prior experience in carpentry, he managed to complete the work by himself and also decided to record everything down. The result was The Vanual, a website where he shares the entire process of converting a van into a camper and living a mobile lifestyle.
