Next week, I will be having a small break!

Have a lovely weekend!

What if animals were round?

If all animals became round overnight, would their daily life still run that smoothly? This was the question the Swiss-German directing duo, Kyra Buschor and Constantin Peplos, were dealing with whilst working on the concept for the world of “Rollin’ Wild”, which originaly started as a series of four very funny clips. After the successful response, they promised to continue the series.

ZigZag city guides for kids

ZigZag city guidesZigZag Paris city guide ZigZag Paris city guide cards ZigZag Paris city guide all

Meet Zig and Zag, the two characters from ZigZag, the new city guides for kids. They allow parents and kids to explore together with the help of a map of the city, 30 city cards filled with fun facts and activities, and a box to hold them in. Really great idea to keep the kids happy and entertained and at the same time, making learning fun.

Except from the beautiful guides of London , Paris and Rome, the rest  of the guides are for US cities. This  idea would be great for more European cities, but for the time being you can order online here.

The Swedish number

A Direct Grand Prix in this year’s Cannes Lions festival for the Swedish Tourist Association.  In order to honor the anniversary of becoming the first country in the world to introduce a constitutional law to abolish censorship 250 years ago, the Swedish Tourist Association created a phone number where audiences could call up a random Swede, to ask anything they like, generating press all over the world.

The reopening of the Watergate Hotel

Sketch for Watergate hotel staff uniforms

The iconic Watergate Hotel in Washington DC just reopened after a nine-year renovation. The new design features luxurious interiors and humorous touches that pay homage to the hotel’s historic past:

Guest key cards say “No need to break in,” reminding us of the Watergate break-in scandal at the nearby office building that led to the resignation of president Nixon. Guests are also free to take the pens inscribed ‘Stolen from The Watergate Hotel’.

Lastly, most of the furniture throughout the hotel has been custom-made to look like it’s from the 1960s and the staff uniforms were created by the Emmy-winning Mad Men costume designer.

Bremain: Creative posters for the pro-EU campaign

Today is Britain’s EU membership referendum. Focusing on the creative side of the campaigns, I have selected my favorites, from the many, pro-EU posters created by British artists all over the world.

The British referendum reminds me a lot of  our own Greek referendum almost one year ago and I can say that the worst thing from that experience was the extreme polarization (almost hostility) of the opposite sides. So I totally agree with the Remain Positive campaign that urges pro-remain artists to design and contribute an image with a thoughtful and positive message for the pro-EU cause. The team behind Remain Positive says: “We are truly saddened to see the debate conducted as fear vs fear. We feel something terribly important has got lost amid the shouting. So for these last few days, these days in which the undecided will choose the future for all of us, we want to flood to the Internet with these positive arguments.”

A recipe for a Grilled Chicken Cobb Salad

Grilled Chicken Cobb Salad

Grilled Chicken Cobb Salad closeup

We have a heatwave these days in Athens, so salads and light meals are the best choice to go. This yummy ‘Grilled Chicken Cobb’ salad is light but also fulfilling as a meal. Here is the recipe:

Grilled Chicken Cobb Salad taken from Lindsey Johnson @ Design Mom
6 servings

Ingredients:
2 Romaine lettuce hearts
1 pound grilled chicken, diced
12 ounces thick cut bacon, cooked and chopped
6 hard boiled eggs, peeled and diced
1 cup crumbled blue cheese
1 pint cherry tomatoes, halved
2 avocados, diced (toss with lemon juice to prevent browning)
Creamy Herb Dressing or your favorite vinaigrette or dressing

Directions
Lay each Romaine heart on a cutting board. Using a sharp knife, cut into 1/2″ ribbons until you reach the stem. Discard the stems. Repeat with remaining Romaine heart. Transfer the chopped lettuce to a big bowl of cool water. Swish the lettuce around to remove any dirt or debris. Drain off the water and spin dry in a salad spinner. Arrange the lettuce on a very large serving platter.

On top of the lettuce, arrange the other ingredients in lengthwise rows. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

To serve, either drizzle Creamy Herb Dressing on top of salad, or serve on the side.
