Colorful patterns created with living things

There is so much color and beauty in nature and artist Christopher Marley captures it fully in the book “Biophilia”, (literally “love of life”). Inside you can find a collection of his artwork, where he patiently arranges insects, urchins or marine creatures in mosaics or other prismatic patterns, highlighting the exquisite design found everywhere in the natural world. Apparently you can order these amazing artworks online.

Don’t play with fire

Pei San Ng-danger-right Pei San Ng-danger-zoom

I love the work of Chicago-based Pei-San Ng, who created this three-dimensional piece with matches. The lettering is based on her own cursive handwriting and it is based around the ideas of combustibility. She says: “I want to tempt the viewer to destroy my artwork. When you look at these pieces you realize that – if you light the matches then you change the work, it becomes a performance, and the artwork is potentially destroyed, there is a tension there, you get a moment of satisfaction and then you have nothing – I like that tease”

The Acapulco chair

Acapulco-Chair

I would love to have these chairs on my balcony!

The Acapulco chair is for me a design icon, but one thing I had not realized is that the designer is actually unknown. Inspired by the traditional Mayan hammocks, the Acapulco chair was first produced in the ’50s, when Acapulco became a jet set destination and quickly became popular throughout Mexico.

Ideal for outdoor lounge seating, the chairs come in bright, tropical colors and many different variations. The classic version is available by: Innit Designs, Acapulco Chair and OK Design. Also a beautiful leather edition by Ocho Workshop.

The four stages of life

“Life is a bitch. Then you die. So while staring at my navel the other day, I decided that that bitch happens in four stages.”

– Mark Manson (Author. Thinker. Life Enthusiast.)

An interesting article by Mark Manson about the stages we all go through in our life: Mimicking, Self-Discovery, Commitment και Legacy.

I can now say that I am definitely in Stage Three:

“Then you double down on what you’re best at and what is best to you. You double down on the most important relationships in your life. You double down on a single mission in life, whether that’s to work on the world’s energy crisis or to be a bitching digital artist or to become an expert in brains or have a bunch of snotty, drooling children. Whatever it is, Stage Three is when you get it done.”
