Brazilian photographer Marcos Alberti decided to do this fun project to combine some of his passions: friends, photography and wine. ‘3 Glasses Later‘ started as a joke, but ended up as a great way to connect with each other. Alberti photographed his subjects four times: first when they arrived and the rest, after each glass of wine.

“The first picture was taken right away when our guests have just arrived at the studio in order to capture the stress and the fatigue after a full day of work. […] At the end of every glass of wine a snapshot, nothing fancy, a face and a wall, 3 times. People from all walks of life, music, art, fashion, dance, architecture, advertising got together for a couple of nights and by the end of the third glass several smiles emerged and many stories were told.”

Stamp collection: Destination Greece

Destination Greece, stamp collection, greek island

Destination Greece, stamp collection, olive

Destination Greece, stamp collection, all stamps

Destination Greece, stamp collection, cycladic figure

I love this stamp collection by Athens-based graphic designer & illustrator Mike Karolos. It is called ‘Destination Greece’ and is a self-initiated project that aims to show – among the economic crisis – the beautiful side of Greece. Karolos has a very distinct graphic style in most of his work, drawing inspiration from abstract and pop-art style.

Can someone turn these into real stamps please? Thank you.

Woods wallpaper

Woods wallpaper / Cole & Son

This wallpaper is a classic: Michael Clark designed this, now iconic, wallpaper pattern, in 1959. Originally designed as a screen print, the Woods wallpaper pattern features bold sketches of trees making a unique forest repeat.

This is actually going to be our wallpaper for one of the walls of the girls’ room. I was surprised they actually liked something like this, maybe because of its “fairytale” appeal, but I am quite happy they chose it because I think it’s timeless (also, no changing wallpapers again for at least 5 years).

A fascinating project: London-based product designer Oscar Lhermitte has collaborated with design studio Kudu to produce a topographically accurate lunar globe that turns along with the phases of the moon.

MOON has been created at a 1:20 million scale, with data from NASA to reveal all of the moon’s craters, mountains and ridges in precise detail. It also has a ring of LED lights (like the sun) that revolves around the globe, illuminating the correct face of the moon and recreating the lunar phases as seen from Earth.

You can check it out on Kickstarter.

Decluttering tip

“Throw all the stuff from your kitchen “junk” drawer into an empty box. Leave the box next to the kitchen for a month. Whenever you need something out of the box, put it back in the drawer. Things that are still in the box a month later, you probably won’t ever need again.”

A few links:

  • A cute book-side table that can hold your coffee, provide storage for books & magazines and serve as a bookmark.
  • Can you believe these people accidentally dressed like their surroundings?
  • The Holger bag has an old-school style and is equipped with a built-in charger for your phone and tablet. Smart.
  • Sherpa turns Instagram into a travel guide. It’s not launched yet, but the idea sounds exciting.
  • A beautifully animated music video about a wooden doll stuck inside a forgotten old penny arcade, magically directed by a former Disney/Pixar director.
  • It’s a shame these umbrellas can only be shipped to Sweden. I love the Forest one.
  • This photographer documents her kids, that live without electronic devices.

I hope you have a great weekend!

For her senior thesis, graduate Rebecca Mah created Culture Caps, a drop-cap alphabet inspired from different cultures and countries. Each letter incorporates design aesthetics from different parts of the world with great detail and beautiful execution. An excellent breakthrough project for a young designer.

The project also includes a book, a poster, and a website, which unfortunately is under construction at the moment.

How to live a happy, healthy, long life

This great article by Eric Barker is trying very hard to convince us that relationships are good for our health and that strong social connections and being surrounded by people who care, can improve our overall well-being and can add as much as 15 years to our life. Well, the article has convinced me at least.

So, here is the sum up:

“Relationships = health: Three times as powerful as exercise

Online relationships don’t count: Don’t substitute Facebook for face-to-face. Use tech to arrange relationships, not replace them.

Be part of a community: Be a Sardinian and be engaged with groups of like-minded people who care.

Work relationships matter: Take breaks with your friends and give’em a hug.”
