I find the work of artist Michael Johansson so strange and wonderful. He creates neat, color co-ordinated installations that are like “real life Tetris”. Johansson uses unwanted objects from flea markets, including computers, keyboards, suitcases, furniture and cars(!) to create compact colorful blocks, installing them in public areas or interesting gaps.

I find the concept behind this collection so interesting! Quick hand sketches with markers have been enlarged and transformed into clothes and shoes. It is the Spring-Summer collection of UK-based designer Edda Gimnes, who just recently graduated from London College of Fashion and has already made an impact as “one of ten Fresh out of Fashion School designers to watch”
OK, maybe these are not really wearable clothes, but only the thought that someone actually came up with the idea and made it happen, is so entertaining!

Amazing! Illustrator Christoph Niemann has created the latest cover for the New Yorker but it’s the first time, augmented reality technology is used to animate its cover artwork, with the help of London studio Nexus.
Niemann’s front and back cover illustrations feature a commuter jumping through the subway doors with a tablet and coffee in hand (actually she reminds me of the Statue of Liberty!). When these are viewed through augmented reality app “Uncovr” they come to life, becoming a fully animated cityscape where the subway doors shut and the train travels through New York.

This is a small selection from the beautiful photographic work of Fan Ho, one of Asia’s most celebrated street photographers. Fan Ho was born in Shanghai in 1931, but immigrated with his family to Hong Kong at an early age.
His atmospheric black and white pictures capture the spirit of Hong Kong in the 1950s and 60s, using light and smoke for a dramatic effect. He photographed people on the street, workers, kids, cityscapes, the harbor. He also combined all this with unexpected geometric compositions and you can see from early on, that his photographic work had a real cinematic style.
Except from photographer, Ho is also a film director and actor and has won over 280 awards from international exhibitions and competitions worldwide.

I don’t understand a word of Russian, but I just love these movie schedule posters for Pushkin Cinema, an underground movie theater that shows arthouse movies. Designed in cyrillic by Olga Vasik from Russia.
Some funny sushi posters for the Eatery a Japanese food restaurant by Vancouver-based illustrator John Larigakis.
Humanæ is a “work in progress” by the Brazilian Angélica Dass, who is attempting to create a chromatic range of the different human skin colors. Volunteers with different nationalities, gender, age, race, social class and religion are photographed by Dass, while their skin color is matched to Pantone swatches.
The project is ongoing and as the photographer says “it will include all those who want to be part of this colossal global mosaic. The only limit would be reached by completing all of the world’s population.”
Sounds ambitious, but it helps when projects like this one, help us see the true colors of the world.
